Match Report:
The old dogs ventured up the hills to Blackwood for their game against the hosts. The cobbled together side was made up with the usual core group plus a few Old Dogs from years gone by and some spares from Blackwood who were kind enough to offer their services. Frank lost the toss and the dogs were kicking into the wind and up the hill.
Signs were ominous from the opening ball up as the Blackwood on-ballers took the ball straight from the centre and into attack with a goal resulting. The relentless attack of the Blackwood hill-billies continued unabated for the rest of the quarter, with forward-line receiving very few opportunities to score. The back-line battled it out valiantly, led by sMiles and the under-sized Deano.
The second quarter was a little better as the dogs managed to score a couple goals through Peewee going down the hill. The back-line and on-ballers, however, still spent the quarter chasing jumpers. Chook was playing a good game on the wing providing an option for the defenders to kick to coming out of defence.
During the third quarter the Old Dogs big men stocks were decimated when Frank limped off with a graze to his knee and Lurch executed a beautiful smother with his head and was left dazed and confused. However, the Old Dogs that were left, the ones with ticker, battled on bravely up the hill against the onslaught of the Blackwood running machine.
The last quarter started with the Old Dogs wishing the game was over. However the last quarter was a evenly contested with the Old Dogs managing to get two goals going down the hill. Wal Wal Price kicked 1.1 for the quarter while Nathan Hoare kicked the other.
