Match Report:
We kicked against the breeze in the first and Westminster OS got away to a good start. We were chasing jumpers and they were rattling on scores. Thankfully our pressure and their inaccuracy still had us with a chance at the end of the quarter.
With the breeze in the second we staged a come back. In our most productive quarter we put on 4.2 and restricted Westminster OS to 2.1. A good quarter with the highlight being the Dave Chicko (Cichowski) mark. Booted in long by Daniel Reardon - making his senior debut - Chicko stood on the shoulders of the full back. Hung there for a while checking out the scenery (and upsetting the radar at West Beach - flying without a permit) and topped it off with a goal! We were in it at half time.
But that's where it ended. After the long break Westminster OS came out and ran us ragged. We were not fit enough and our huff and puff was just that. We didn't trouble the scoreboard in the third, but Westminster OS ran through a rushed behind for us, to register our only score (a single point) in the third. At the last break we were trailing, 4.6 to 10.15. Could the wind get us an unlikely victory?
In the event the answer was in the negative. We were able to hold them to 1.3 but were unable to score ourselves. A return of 1.1 for the quarter was a poor return with the breeze. We were well beaten by a fitter and faster side.
Best: 1. Joel Pettersson continues fine form of the past few games. Good in the air, good disposal, and gets to the ball. A very good game. 2. Andrew Jones also gets to the ball. A good roving display where he picked up many kicks. 3. Tim Morris never gives in and gives his all. A hard at the ball display and perhaps should be considered to play centre. 4. Joe Anesbury an A Grade player running around in the B's getting touches at will. Would be nice to see him on the training track. 5. Michael Cichowski rebound and hard at the ball off the half back line. Attacks the ball and plays for keeps.
Others to do well included Brett Gooley, Matt Kooyman, Shane Hollitt and Dave Chicko gathered three but the ball wasn't his end enough!
