Report:

This was a danger game.  With a changed team and against an opponent we easily accounted for in our last encounter, complacency and over confidence would be major difficulties to overcome.

Ingle Farm won the toss and kicked with the aid of a 4 to 5 goal breeze.

The game opened and the pressure of both sides saw it develop to a scramble.  We attacked into the breeze, with runners in Josh Vines, Brad Horsell, Robbie Cains and Adam Rumbelow prominent.  Our account opened with Darren Ueding slotting truly.  Farmers, against the play, slotted one.  Our second goal was registered by Cohen Mattner - from a free kick - and then Farmers took control and had the ball in their forwards for much of the time.  Farmer's Matthew Feltus had a purple patch and slotted 2.1 in three forays. We were astray.  Six points into the breeze was not a good return.  We had an indifferent quarter with much of what we did good, let down by some very poor disposal, and poor options.  We had more attacks on goal but were behind on the scoreboard.

We exploded into attack in the second quarter - Darren Ueding to James Carson - and a goal on the board almost immediately.  Mark Baryczka typified our desperation with a smoother, keeping the ball in our control.  We were in attack much of the quarter, but as in the first, our disposal left a lot to be desired.  Farmers were also attacking with their Captain, Grant Hawksworth, particularly dangerous.  In all our second quarter was a poor one.  We established a lead at half time, but the easy game was not to be.   A couple of players out, a restructured side, and we didn't look good.

The third quarter opened and Farmers were looking dangerous with their full forward being a large target registering a couple of quick goals.  Some positional changes with Dave McDonald to full back, quelled his influence.  In fact he didn't register another possession, a great result for McDonald, and perhaps changed the outcome our way.  Shaun Jacobsen, from centre half forward to centre half back, and our team returned to a more familiar look.  A highlight of the quarter was Robbie Brauers run along the flank and delivering to Cohen Mattner for a further goal.  It was goal for goal in the quarter with both us and Farmers registering seven goals each.  Attacking football at its best.  Ryan Medhurst to counter Hawksworth was partly effective, but Rhino suffered an injury and left the ground, not returning after three quarter time.

The final quarter and we switched on.  Adam Rumbelow covered Hawksworth, nullifying his game, and we exploded.  James Carson slipped into overdrive, and with the wind abating making precise disposal effective, he took several telling marks and kicked four goals for the quarter.  Russell Ware had dominated the ruck duels and with Brad Horsell at his driving best, we really took the game away.  Eight goals 9 points to 1 point settled things our way with a vengeance.  In the end we won by 10 goals - but it wasn't until the final quarter we were able to shake Ingle Farm.  It is rumoured they have gained players since our last encounter and their young team has gained further experience.  But a 10 goal win is a good win!

Best:  1.  Brad Horsell in the centre was at his explosive best.  Dominated around the ground and with driving kicks consistently put us into attack.  His mark early in the final quarter electrified the game.  2.  Russell Ware keeps on keeping on.  Gave us first use in the ruck duels and was very handy around the ground with strong marking, backing up, and linking plays.  3.  Darren Ueding had much of the ball.  Dangerous around the goals and always presents as an option.  4.  Cohen Mattner slotted 6 for the match and gathered his goals throughout the game providing the elusive option.  5.  James Carson was good all game but exploded in the final quarter - adding icing to the cake with 4 goals in the quarter and 6 in all.

Others to do well included Tyson Jacquier off the half back line, Josh Vines about the ball, Adam Rumbelow, off half back and nullifying their best player in the final quarter.  Dave McDonald, in a disciplined game, eclipsed an opposition strong point.  Mark Baryczka added a degree of strength around the packs, while Robbie Brauer and Robbie Cains also had very useful games.
