Match Report:
A win by 103 points. A good effort to keep the opposition to no goals until the eleventh minute of the last quarter. But the opposition did not have enough firepower to challenge. Their game was competitive in the backlines and about the centre but, while they were in attack several times, our pressure repelled them, or put them off, preventing goal scoring.
It was a rolling game. As it rolled along we got better. Our first quarter into the wind was very good but we wasted opportunities in overdoing the hand ball. Strong point, Brian Curtis, grabbed opportunities and registered our only two goals. Brian goes up a gear when we need him most.
The second quarter and we had some dashers. Michael Cichowski motored off his back flank, while Josh Maas, on one wing, and John Barbis, on the other, took it in turns to dash forward. Andrew Jones was where the ball landed. However we still had the fumbles and took some wrong options.
The third quarter and Brett Kelly was effective repelling with some good clean disposal. Joe Anesbury was a power point and Chris Anspach had an influence. We were into attack, against the wind, and dominated the quarter. The question was whether Ingle Farm would score a major. With the use of the breeze coming to an end, our backlines were intent on goal prevention.
The final quarter. We were with the breeze. Ingle Farm's wheels fell off. We had 17 shots on goal. 7.10 reflected the wind, and the pressure of Famers defence, but we could have been 20 goals at the end, and perhaps should have been. At the 11 minute mark, Farmers brought up their first major when they went into attack.
A good win in the circumstances. Wind, unusual playing surface, uneven on the northern wings and very soft on the southern, made things difficult.
Best: 1. Joe Anesbury was outstanding. Powerhouse grabs and control of the ball and long kicks out of the centre. 2. Josh Maas, speed off a wing. Great in the air and good disposal. 3. John Barbis in a similar vein to Maas dominated the other wing. 4. Brett Kelly cleaned up in the backlines and also delivered with precision. 5. Andrew Jones ran and covered ground all day. Applied tackles and pressured the opposition for a good game.
Others to come under notice: Chris Anspach, Michael Cichowski, David Cichowski, Adrian Burness and
Brian Curtis. Peter Tozer filled in and dominated at centre half back.
The game saw Kym Rasheed, also a good contributor, celebrate 150 games in the Bulldog Jumper. A great effort!
