Match Report:

On the day a team decimated by withdrawals.  Five or six of the selected team out with the flu or injuries.  Thanks to several who put their hands up late to fill the spots.  But this does not place a "team" on the ground.  It takes time before players fall into place.  That said we were up against the top team and got a pasting on the day.  Again it should be noted we are one of two teams to have inflicted a loss on Plympton this season.  But not this Round.

We started off to the non wind-favoured end.  Our disposal left a lot to be desired and a lack of run had us chasing.  Several players were up to it and exerted pressure, but overall we were running second.  We had winners in Andrew Jones, Alex Birch, and Dave McDonald, but too few were asked to do too much.

The second quarter, and with the wind, we got into gear and put several goals on the board.  However, Plympton outscored us by a few points for the term.  We went into half time with a deficit of 16 points.  Not far away and we would expect to rectify the matter in the second half.

We had two things to overcome.  No 17 at centre half back for Plympton.  The ball just did not pass him.  And we kicked to him every time.  Our skills were such that we appeared mesmerized by him.  The second thing to overcome was our poor disposal - which in turn accounted for much of 17's dominance.

The third quarter was our down fall.  We didn't trouble the scoreboard at all.  A quarter where Plympton put us away.  It would have been worse other than the efforts of Shane Hollitt, Tim Morris, and Dave McDonald.  All continued to contribute - but we were looking very ragged and our disposal didn't improve.  Perhaps the pressure of the opposition!

The final quarter and again we put on three goals - as did the opposition.  With Tim Morris at full forward we had a target and he slotted two - but we could not stop the flow.  A loss in another game where we ran second in the fitness stakes.  We could beat them (and have) with a full team - so all is not lost.

Best:  1.  David McDonald a constructive game in ruck.  Marked well, tapped well and did his utmost to put us on a winning way.  2.  Andrew Jones - run and run, one of the few to match it with the opposition - continues a good season.  3.  James O'Loughlin after being lost in the forwards, turned to defence and repelled with excellence.  4.  Tim Morris gives his all, all the time, looked the part when leading at full forward.  4.  Shane Hollitt off the bench has the skills and class above this grade.
