Match Report:
Heritage Day for Rosewater and a home match against North Haven. A must win in front of the Bulldog faithful and a good win did come about.
In front of a large pro-Rosewater crowd, gathered in a large marquee erected for the occasion, the spectators anticipated a close and hard fought game. And this is how it turned out. North Haven are yet to win any points this season, but their attack and play making belied this. Their problem was maintaining the intensity.
We lost the toss and kicked into a slight breeze, to the west. The game opened at terrific pace and the ball moved in and out of attack. Robbie Brauer, touches early, and after a good snare, slotted our first. We looked the better team but North Haven were not to be denied. Our good passages were more frequent and we exploited some lapses in pressure. At quarter time we had established a reasonable lead - but not one to say we could take things easy. We had power points in Josh Searle, Josh Vines and Brad Horsell, all running out of centre, while Shaun Jacobsen, Ryan Medhurst and Daniel Reardon were dashing out of defence. Dav Baumann was contesting well in ruck.
The second quarter continued much the same as our first. We were into attack regularly and outscored Haven well. Reegan Mastranelo had a purple patch when introduced to the half back line and exerted body pressure, then cleared to advantage. Shawn Anderson was again looking dangerous up forward and relieved Dav in ruck. He slotted his third for the game during the quarter.
At the long break we had a comfortable lead over Haven's score, 8.11 to 5.8
The third quarter was a fairly even contest. Haven with its last use of the breeze challenged but we withstood their thrusts in what, for us, was a fairly ragged quarter. We didn't have cohesion, but we were still able to move forward on sufficient occasions to run out equal on the scoreboard. Again Robbie Brauer was to the fore, goaling from a free (after putting his body on the line), and restored our confidence. At three quarter time we had a comfortable buffer.
The final quarter opened with Shawn Anderson in ruck and we in attack. A couple of quick goals and then North Haven regrouped and peppered their goals. They rattled on three and things were not looking as rosey as they had. Josh Searle and Darren Ueding revved up, popped a couple through and we were safe. Robbie Brauer capped a great game putting through the absolute sealer to what turned out to be a comfortable win in the end!
Best: 1. Josh Searle continues a great season. Plenty of run and commitment and later awarded the Clarrie Christenson Medal as our best. 2. Robbie Brauer another damaging and dynamic game. Slotted three and put us into attack on numerous occasions. 3. Brad Horsell copped a lot of attention, ran hard and got the hard ball. Dominated the centre. 4. Brenton Love was good in the air and made up the third winner across centre. Quick and dangerous. 5. Shawn Anderson was a focal point at full forward and when in ruck delived the ball with some great tapping. Four goals topped a very good game. Others to do well included, Josh Vines with his usual running game, Daniel Reardon and Ryan Medhurst - both out of back pockets re-bounded with pace and skill, Dav Baumann in ruck did well, as did Tyson Jacquier and Shaun Jacobsen. Darren Ueding put his hand up, particularly when things were going against us.
A good win but we need to bring home the points next week to re-establish our credentials.
