Match Report:

A win which we had to have to keep our season on track.  It was a good win.  A win where Adelaide Lutheran would have been the favoured side.  But our team effort, over the entire game, resulted in our winning a hotly contested encounter.

We got off to a good start in winning the toss.  We kicked with the wind and we had a very good opening.  Gareth MacLeod dazzled in his opening game, getting touches at will and sending us into attack.  We were astray on the scoreboard, registering 5.5 for the quarter.  It could easily been 9.1 and would have put huge pressure on the opposition.  We had strong points all over the ground and joint new-comer in Ashley Matz was also very prominent, slotting three goals in his first quarter with us.  It was a good quarter of team football with plenty of run, pressure and constructive play.  Adelaide Lutheran forayed into attack and registered 2.2 for their efforts - which was a good return considering the amount of play we had.

The second quarter was a test.  At the end Lutheran had a very good run with their time keeper.  The quarter went 3 minutes 55 seconds over time.  Time in which Lutheran kicked two goals (with the wind advantage).  It was a quarter we had to defend.  Led by Adam Rumbelow and backed up by Tyson Jacquier, we did defend well.  Dav Baumann was giving a good account in ruck and with Brad Horsell, strong out of centre, Josh Vines, Scott Jacobsen, Darren Ueding and Josh Searle around the ball, we looked the goods for the first 30 minutes of the quarter.  We let ourselves down with the last two goals, kicked when all should have been enjoying a half time break!

We entered the third quarter with a two point deficit.  We had the wind.  We had to pour on the score.  We did attack but were very much astray.  2 goals 6 for the quarter was a poor return for our efforts.  Rumbelow had moved to the forwards (and returned a goal) while Jacquier assumed command of the defence and was very conspicuous in repelling Lutheran attacks.  Our back lines restricted Lutheran to 1 goal for the quarter.  Horsell continued to dominate around the centre while Robbie Brauer was under notice.  Our runners in Josh Searle, Josh Vines and Scotty Jacobsen were very active.  Brenton Love was providing a moving target but our return of 2 goals 6 points left a lot to be done in the final quarter - and against a good wind advantage with Lutheran to run home with it.

Some apprehension at the opening of the final stanza.  However this quickly dissipated.  We put in a very good, hard at the ball, team effort.  Matz stepped up and showed all his ability putting through another two goals, while "Aussie" slotted his second for the game.  We outscored Lutheran by three points, for the quarter, against the wind.  It was a great team effort, with all players contributing.  This time the quarter went for the appropriate time!
