Match Report:

A good win at home.  We were given a touch up in our first encounter and we returned the compliment.  A win by 15 points doesn't sound a lot - but they were 15 individual points.  We accumulated 30 shots on goal while Hope Valley had 15.  Our win was a good team effort - but we let ourselves down in front of goal.  But a big win in any case.

We won the toss and kicked to the west.  Against the slightest of breezes.  We went into attack, missed our opportunity, and Hope Valley responded, only to be stopped on the last line by a telling mark to Dav Baumann.  Things went too and fro but we were switched on with some pressure football empahsised by the tackling and in particular "Aussie" Armsden and Scotty Jacobsen's attack on the ball.  We had plenty of run with Ashley Matz and Peter Kavanagh both prominent.  Brad Horsell was dominating the centre.  Our back lines were going well with Shaun Jacobsen master in the air and Joel Pettersson cleaning up the left-overs.  We had the opportunity to put the game away with 9 shots to 4, but with 5 points, we let the opportunity slip.

The second quarter went in a similar manner to that of the first.  We were on top but astray.  Shawn Anderson was giving us a power point at centre half forward, and our runners were on top.  Josh Vines and Robbie Brauer racked up possessions.  Dav Baumann was giving a good account in the ruck.

After the half time break Hope Valley were immediately into attack and registered a goal.  While we had been the dominant team to this point, had the half time address given Hope Valley the impetus to challenge.  Horsell stepped up, with a great snap, as did Brauer and Mark Baryczka.  Baryczka took a mark running with the flight, received a 25 metre for high contact, and slotted a goal.  We were on top, but still astray.

We were 15 points up at the last break, and fifteen points at the end.  The last quarter was even for total score.  We slotted 3.6 to their 4 goals.  We were on top throughout the quarter but Hope Valley challenged and always looked as if they could get a run on.  But in the end we had a good victory.

Best:  1.  Brad Horsell in the centre controlled the game all day.  Run and tackle with plenty of possessions, a forward focus when we needed it.  2.  Robbie Brauer gave us a power point on his wing.  Continues to run the opposition down, take the ball away, and put us into attack.  3.  Shaun Jacobsen blocked the direct route to goal.  Very good in the air and defended well all match.  4.  Dav Baumann again was dominant in ruck.  Marked around the ground.  5.  Ashley Matz was all dash and slotted 3 goals in a very polished display.  All others had moments.  Scott Jacobsen was hard all day, "Aussie" Armsden likewise, Joel Pettersson rebounded as did Tyson Jacquier.  Josh Vines and Peter Kavanagh were very active around the ball.  Mark Baryczka added bite and Bruno O'Loughlin had some telling possessions.  Shawn Anderson was prominent, particularly in the first half.  Rhino Medhurst was also good in defence and took a couple of very good marks.  All in all it was a good team win!
