Match Report:

Our Bulldog battle with Plympton continued in the Elimination Final.  We had the home ground advantage, and the support of many past players and "Friends of Rosewater".  A great support crowd.  We were the favoured team and so it proved to be.  Of course one could say it was never in doubt.  The influence of proxy team manager, Rhino Medhurst, was a telling factor in getting us across the line.  Rhino has been taking lessons in humility from the Candyman and his contribution was first class!

We lost the toss.  We kicked into a 2 goal breeze, towards the Canning Street end.  The ball was bounced and within a minute Plympton had raised two flags.  It was only the opening play but one that would have had Plympton's spirits right up.  A great Dav Baumann pack mark, pass to the elusive Robbie Brauer and in turn to Adam Rumbelow and our first was raised.  A set shot from well out and slightly miss-kicked but with sufficient distance to clear the line.  There was plenty of pace and pressure.  Brauer was on fire, while "Aussie" Armsden, Ashley Matz and Rumbelow were all prominent.  Shaun Jacobsen had settled into his usual game against Plympton - dominating at centre half back and handing out the now standard football lesson in how to demolish a centre half forward.  Brad Horsell was our other goal scorer when he marked and kicked truly.  We were desperate in defence (and attack) but were off target.  Tyson Jacquier was fearless in his approach to the ball.  A great spoil, stopped Plympton in their tracks, and slightly later a determined dash at the ball, knowing the crunch was coming.  But he, and our team, were on top.  But it was poor return on the scoreboard for our ascendancy.

The second quarter had us now to the wind favoured end.  Plympton again were first into attack raising a goal.  We responded and a loose ball in the square saw Rumbelow soccer it through.  Ashley Matz started to have a significant influence on proceedings.  He and "Bruno" O'Loughlin were looking very dangerous.  Peter Kavanagh "stole" a kick in and from well out just missed.  We continued not getting the full benefit of our endeavours.  Rumbelow stepped up and from a nearly impossible position in the pocket sank a high turning kicked ball.  Again some points and Plympton were into attack but repelled by Jacquier.  Shaun Jacobsen, Jacquier, Brenton Love and Josh Searle were holding sway in the outer attack, while Scott Jacobsen, and Shane Smith were solid on the full back line.  Joel Pettersson, standing their best forward, had his hands full, but was not giving anything away - and at the end of the game was on top. A couple more goals, one each to Mattner and Matz, gave us a reasonable buffer at half time - but it could have been much better.

The third quarter and we were again into the breeze.  We opened with a goal to Rumbelow and then Plympton responded.  They had three on the board and had their confidence up.  Our pressure game had us respond and a good mark by Kavanagh,  and from well out, he scored a major.  From then on the ball was very much in Plympton's scoring area.  Armsden, and Scotty Jacobsen were in the thick of things and we were not giving any easy kicks.  Armsden took perhaps the mark of the match (to this point) under a lot of pressure, to stop a drive forward.  We were under a lot of pressure.  Plympton had the better of the quarter, score wise, and at three quarter time we were 10 points down.

Coming home with the wind and for the second week in a row, we adjusted our centre square, and produced the goods.  Mattner had been a target all day and put one through from well out.  Our pressure on the opposition was intense.  Brauer burst into the picture with a running goal, a couple of points, and then Brad Horsell dashed off centre wing and he raised his second.  We were in command but Plympton refused to give up.  Jacquier stopped one foray while shortly later Joel Pettersson took the mark that had to be taken.  The mark of the match.  A contested mark which had it gone to the opposition it would surely have resulted in a goal!  But he took it and cleared.  And with his dash out of defence he not only cleared the ball but dashed Plympton's chances.  To our forwards and Mattner brought up his third.  "Bruno" then added a polished disposal to Matz who put through the absolute sealer.  A very good win against a slick opposition.  Now to Argana Park to take on Elizabeth.

Best: 1.  Shaun Jacobsen took their centre half forward to the cleaners.  Comprehensively put paid to any thrust forward through the main avenue - high marking and rebounded all game.  2.  Andrew Armsden gave a power display of possession football and pressure on the opposition.  3.  James "Bruno" O'Loughlin deceptively gets under the radar of the opposition.  Has skills, and does the unexpected, produces the goods.  4.  Adam Rumbelow again a gutsy effort.  With Armdsen had us mobile in the last - and kicked 4 goals.  5.  Ashley Matz oozes class and has pace and an ability to get out on his own.  Also a couple of goals.

All played well.  Dav Baumann in ruck carries the team.  Robbie Brauer was electric, particularly early, and he gets out on his own.  Brad Horsell delivered the goods when we needed them. Cohen Mattner was a moving target and kicks goals from well out.  Scotty Jacobsen and Tyson Jacquier didn't given an inch.  Shane Smith kept his man goalless while Joel Pettersson sealed the game with his mark!  Our runners in Josh Searle, Brenton Love, Josh Vines and Peter Kavanagh all had good games.  Darren Ueding drifted around the half forward line and presented for an alternate target.  Likewise those who made up the team on the bench all had their moments in the sun.  Shane Hollitt, Daniel Reardon and Chris Forster are all quick off the mark and very good pinch hitters.  While Mark Baryczka adds the grunt.  All in all it was a very good team win.
